“April/May 2010”

Earth Day:  Earth Day is Thursday, April 22 2010.  Families are welcome to join us as we revitalize the children’s play yard and gardens.    Make sure to let your child’s teacher know, if you can get time away from work.  We look forward to you joining us as we learn about conservation, endangered species, and the small things we can do every day to protect Mother Earth.  Stories, planting, arts & crafts and  preparing healthy snacks are some of the things we will do together!  The teachers will plan for a variety of activities so we can work in small groups.  Please remember, with more adults in the classroom, it is easy for children to get a little overwhelmed.   Let us all be conscious of the Montessori way.  Move slowly, speak quietly and allow the children to lead us to joyful, spontaneous activity and thoughtful reflection.

Spring Soiree:  Our Annual Family Spring Celebration is Saturday, May 1st at the Forestville Softball Field.  Take 901 through Minersville.  Make a left after St. Nicks Hall.  Travel a few miles over a little bridge and it is on your left.  This is a perfect day to get to know the Perception Training Family!  Bring kick balls, bats and balls, kites and trikes and anything else you enjoy doing outdoors.  Don’t forget a camera to capture the memories!

Education Program:  A Personal Body Safety Awareness Prevention class will held here on May 26th, sponsored by our local, Rape and Victim Assistance Center of Schuylkill County.   If you do not want your child to participate, just let me know.  I do have a copy of the preschool curriculum for this class in my office for your review.

Graduation:   Graduation is Friday, June 4th Plans are well underway.  Just a reminder: We have early dismissal at 12PM. Thank you parents for your help with the planning!  Children have been measured and cap and gown orders are being taken.  The ceremony and celebration will be held at the Pottsville Zone.  Arrival time is no later than 5:30PM.

Outdoor Policy:  Please remember safe shoes at all times.  Children should not wear sandals, flip-flops, or crocks.  Sneakers or shoes with a secure back are safest for young children.  Also, remind your child not to wear best dress.  Most children enjoy getting dirty outdoors!  As the weather gets warmer, caps and long sleeve light weight tees are better than applying sunscreen.  Sunscreen is treated under medication policy guidelines.

Upcoming: Summer Enrichment Camps for School Age Children:- Programs begin June 7th.  We have 2 classrooms for Enrichment from June through August.  We offer Computer, Fitness & Nutrition,  Spanish, Fine Art, Sculpture, Yoga, Science, Cooking, and so much more!  Children from 4 to 6 years work together and children 7 to 12 years work together.  Camps are designed to be one week camps.  Children may choose the camps you wish to attend.  Check out our Summer 2010 Camps Flyer for details.  Space is limited.  Register early!

New  program coming this Fall, School Age Tutoring and Enrichment:  We are so excited to inform everyone, we are developing a brand new program for the fall of 2010.  We will expand our services to include School Age Tutoring and Enrichment.  This program will offer school age children time after school for homework and tutoring.  We will also incorporate well rounded experiences to include: time for relaxing activities such fine art, board games and botany.  The students will learn about values and partake in critical thinking and problem solving activities as well as explore an annual community outreach project.  Spread the word, children from K through 4th grade are welcome!
